Success Stories

**Since the 2000’s we have made a significant difference to the Clays Lane estate, Stratford and New Town ward. We have addressed the prevalent challenges in the area, including a lack of a community hub, high unemployment, mental health and anti-social behaviour, while empowering over 100 people from hard to reach groups. Today Newtown Ward and Strafford has seen massive investment and development improving the wellbeing and employment prospects of the local community.

**We have project managed the refurbishment, sale and  installations of 50 donated computers in a school in Nigeria. This deliverable empowered the volunteer with project management, social enterprise and international development skills and giving  back to the community that trained him. This was a sustainable project that required no external funding and has given us a project and business development model to generate income for projects.

**We ran over 10 workshops in churches, community and youths centres on self-employment and business start-up for unemployed people there by improving the aspirations of over 150 people in the community. We plan to build on this and generate income as a social enterprise.

**Julie had obtained a Master’s Degree in management but working in a low paid unskilled jobs and found it difficult working in her area of academia. We provided her with some mentoring intervention in teaching and linked her with  work experience opportunity at a University in which she later became a visiting lecturer.

Background

Since 2000, Clays Lane Trust formally known as Clays Lane Advice & Training Centre (CLATC) has piloted several excellent employment and social enterprise projects effectively and resourcefully in a small housing estate. Based on the economic challenges facing Londoners, we believe that now is the time to scale up our projects for the benefit of the wider community of East London.
